Magnificent Maca Creating Organic Buzz
SAN FRANCISCO (July 21, 2005) Ruth Shamai believes maca, known as the "Incan super food" could be the newest trend in the exploding organic foods market.
Shamai, whose Ruth's Hemp Foods (www.RuthsHempFoods.com) pioneered the hemp foods industry, has just introduced MacaPower bars, hoping to build on the recent success of her Hemp/Maca protein power supplement.
Maca, derived from a small root vegetable that grows in the high Andean plateaus, has been eaten by Peruvians for centuries to support healthy endocrine and immune systems, and to increase stamina and overall well-being. Maca is rich in trace minerals including zinc, iodine and phytosterols, proteins and essential fatty acids.
MacaPower bars contain 2,000 mg of certified organic maca, and come in three flavors: Ginger Almond, Lemon Hazelnut and Chocolate Ginger . In addition to maca, the bars contain simple ingredients such as: almonds, hazelnuts, raisins, agave syrup, peanuts, crystallized ginger, puffed brown rice, brown rice syrup, and SoftHemp (organic hulled hemp seeds).
In 2004, Ruth's Hemp / Flax / Maca Raw Protein Power was a finalist in the new supplement category at the Natural Products Expo East and gained endorsement by an Olympic athlete.
MacaPower bars will be available online at www.RuthsHempFoods.com in mid-August and through distributors soon thereafter. The suggested retail price for a 1.6-ounce (45-gram) bar is $1.69.
Ruth's Hemp Foods pioneered the use of hemp in food in North America, making Hemp Bars, Hemp Protein Powder, Omega Burgers (hemp burgers), Hemp Oil, SoftHemp (certified organic shelled hemp seed). Ruth's Hemp Foods makes healthy, nutritious products that are packed with essential fatty acids and protein and are always free of GMOs, refined sugars, hydrogenated oils, artificial preservatives, fillers and colors.
