South San Francisco (February 08, 2007) — Responding to customers’ requests, Planet Organics (, the Bay Area’s most-respected source for home-delivered organic and sustainably grown food has teamed up with Marin Sun Farms to distribute the farms’ renowned beef products.

Based in Pt. Reyes, Marin Sun Farms ( produces 100% grass-fed, pasture-raised beef primarily for Bay Area consumers. A leading local proponent of sustainable agriculture, Marin Sun produces 100% grass-fed beef that has a rich and robust flavor not found in conventionally produced beef. Their grass-fed beef, which is transitioning to complete organic certification, contains substantially less fat than grain-fed meet. Moreover, the types of fat found in the grass-fed variety are much healthier, according to food scientists.

Planet Organics’ initial order for a week’s supply of Marin Sun’s hamburger meat sold out the first day it was offered on the company’s online ordering site.

“We knew our customers wanted Marin Sun products, but we were overwhelmed by the demand,” said Larry Bearg, co-owner of Planet Organics.

Bearg is now tripling his orders for the farm’s hamburger meat, and beginning to offer additional Marin Sun products, including flank and flatiron steak, hot dogs and Navajo-Churro lamb.

According to Marin Sun Farms owner, David Evans, the new relationship “relieves us of much of the effort we have had to spend on distributing our food and frees us to focus more on raising animals and packaging products. Over time, this will enable us to scale up our production to meet the tremendous demand. We are striving to make the closest possible connection from farm to table.”

Marin Sun Farms meats will continue to be available at a handful of retail outlets, farmers markets and co-ops in the Bay Area as well as on the menus at over two dozen area restaurants including Chez Panisse and the Acme Chophouse.

About Marin Sun Farms
Pt Reyes-based Marin Sun Farms is a small family-owned farm committed to producing and marketing local, pasture-based food for the Bay Area. Marin Sun Farms raises its own livestock and also purchases them from partner ranchers who fill in seasonal gaps in production.
