Web site

The Beyond Organic radio show is a unique environmental radio and multimedia program addressing issues of organic food and farming, as well as social and environmental sustainability.

The show offers news, interviews and research, filling a void left by public and private broadcasts. We cover timely issues and trends, with guests ranging from award-winning author Michael Pollan ('Botany of Desire') and Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman, to organic farmers and sustainable seafood specialists. Beyond Organic covers a diverse yet interconnected set of issues including genetic engineering, Mad Cow Disease, dead zones, health, nutrition, Slow Food, cooking, gardening, Fair Trade and international trade policy among others.

Beyond Organic is a weekly, one-hour talk / interview show, featuring 2-4 guests. Listener emails are also read on-air when appropriate. Guests generally appear live in our San Francisco studio, but can also join in by phone when the need arises. Publicists are encouraged to review the show archives prior to pitching. Guests are chosen to represent a diversity of perspectives and knowledge bases.

Every week the show comes available on Monday morning, by 11 PST, and our programs are subsequently shared with our affiliate stations for inclusion in their programming. The show currently reaches thousands of listeners across North America via traditional radio, satellite radio, and webcast. Shorter segments, under the "Earth News" and "Icicle Minute" brands, are broadcast on the CBS Radio Network and Armed Forces Radio. Shorter 90-second news clips are also in development. Podcasting will be available beginning in Fall 2005.

Beyond Organic reaches a breadth of American society, including policy makers, government officials, journalists, community activists, farmers, educators, corporate leaders and business professionals. Journalists consistently monitor topics and the guests featured on the shows, resulting in spin-off stories, articles and features in outlets ranging from Organic Products Retailer and the San Jose Mercury News to National Geographic.
