Elephant Pharm Announces Los Altos Store Opening
New breed of pharmacy offers vast selection of wellness products, free community classes and health experts

BERKELEY, Calif. (November 29, 2006) — Elephant Pharm, the leading one-stop wellness store and pharmacy (formerly known as Elephant Pharmacy) is scheduled to open its newest location in Los Altos on December 2nd. In celebration of the opening, a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held December 2nd at 10 AM. Guests of honor include Los Altos Mayor-elect Curtis Cole and Mountain View Mayor Nick Galiotto.

Located at 4470 El Camino Real, the 14,000 sq foot store is aimed at serving the increasing population of people who aren't satisfied with the one-size-fits all approach of most big box chain drugstores. Each Elephant store has two pharmacies — conventional Rx and herbal — that fill prescriptions and offer custom compounding. In addition to what customers typically expect from a drug store, they provide a selection of products far beyond the typical drug store offering. The store's extensive and carefully chosen product selection includes herbal remedies, vitamins, supplements, natural body care and cosmetics, over the counter drugs, healthy household cleaning products, and natural items for babies and pets. Staffed with experts like herbalists, nutritionists, RNs and aestheticians, and of course pharmacists, the store will also offer free health and wellness classes to the Los Altos community and free private consultations with wellness experts.

As part of the opening day festivities, Elephant will host a raffle for gift bags filled with sample products. Throughout the month, customers can enter to win one grand prize of an energy efficient washing machine. Visitors will also be able to enjoy family-friendly activities including store tours and discounts, health-related demos, beauty makeovers, an Elephant “Bounce House,” and balloons for kids. A local steel drum band will entertain guests from 11 AM to 3 PM. A large selection of holiday gifts and unique toys will also be featured.

“The Los Altos community is a natural home for our new store,” said Kathi Lentzsch, CEO. “Once people visit Elephant, they come back again and again due to our ability to help each customer individually and our unique and extraordinary product selection. We work hard to offer everything the community needs for health and wellness in a single location, while making the shopping experience educational and upbeat.”

Elephant Pharm will initially provide more than 50 jobs to area and regional residents and expects to provide 100 jobs when the store matures.

According to a recent survey from the National Institutes of Health, 55 percent of adults said they were most likely to use Complementary and Alternative Medicine because they believed that it would help them when combined with conventional medical treatments. Elephant Pharm is committed to becoming a community resource for the growing population that wants the best of both conventional and alternative approaches to wellness.
